Design for Health Bootcamp

Introducing clinicians to human-centred design

The Design for Health Bootcamp is a workshop for healthcare professionals interested in improving health service delivery, products, spaces and interventions. It provides a fun and safe environment for clinicians and other hospital staff to explore creative, human-centred approaches to identifying problems, generating new ideas, and prototyping solutions.

My Role

Working as part of the team at Good Health Design, I helped design and facilitate the first Design for Health Bootcamp in 2019. One of my contributions to the Bootcamp was delivering a presentation focused on the principles of co-design and its potential to enhance healthcare experiences. During the session, I shed light on common design challenges encountered in hospital environments and emphasised their impact on patient health and wellbeing.

In addition, to empower participants with actionable tools and techniques, I showcased practical examples and shared valuable insights from my research and experience. One key aspect was highlighting the effectiveness of rapid prototyping as a means to embed human-centred design in healthcare. By showing some real-world applications of design, we were able to demonstrate how this approach can drive tangible improvements in quality of care.

The workshop also provided participants with hands-on experience. Through interactive activities and exercises, attendees had the opportunity to directly engage with the tools and techniques we discussed. This immersive approach allowed them to transform abstract concepts into concrete ideas, fostering an environment of creativity and innovation.
